Islamabad: In an interview with the Sunday Times, former Prime Minister Imran Khan stated that he is being treated like a terrorist and denied basic human rights at Adiala Jail.
In a recent interview conducted in prison, 71-year-old Imran made remarks that were instructed by his lawyer. As stated in the article, he is not permitted to possess a pencil and paper. Imran has been held at Adiala Prison for almost 12 months following his conviction in three cases: the Toshakhana reference, the cipher case, and the Iddat case. His wife, Bushra Bibi, is also incarcerated in the Iddat case.
Khan portrayed it as a state of isolation with limited space and constant monitoring, highlighting the denial of basic freedoms, such as self-expression.
“I am confined in a 7ft by 8ft cell, typically reserved for terrorists to ensure they have no contact with anyone,” he told The Sunday Times.
“It is isolation with very little space to move. I am under constant surveillance by the authorities, being recorded 24/7, and I am denied basic prisoner and human rights like visits,” he said
Imran Khan’s sentence in the Toshakhan reference was suspended on April 1. He was discharged by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in the cipher case in June. Other courts have also acquitted him in various cases filed after May 9, 2023 – the day he was arrested, causing chaos across the country, leading to the state countering the party and his subsequent release.
The Islamabad district and session court accepted the appeals by Imran Khan and his wife in the iddat case. However, right after the court discharged them, the National Accountability Bureau arrested them in the Toshakhan case, which led to Imran’s freedom being questioned for a while.
United Nations Working Group on Human Rights said that all allegations against Imran Khan are baseless, he is being forcefully kept in jail to keep him out of the Political field. The United Nations group also appealed for the freedom of former Prime Minister Imran Khan
Imran and his wife looked for help from high courts after their most recent round of captures and remand endorsements. The bail was denied by the Lahore High Court for purposely creating chaos on 9 may 2023
In the light of the foreign funding case, 9 May, and the cipher case, the revolution has passed in the US and we have all relevant shreds of evidence to ban the Pakistan Tehreek E Insaf – Information Minister Attaullah Tarrar.
